Halton Wedding

Sometimes I don’t have the words to begin to explain how happy or elated a wedding makes me. Kristen and Jeff’s big day is one of those weddings that left me smiling, crying, and laughing all day. It was a bit of a unique situation where I went to school with her youngest brother, and am also friends with her sister. Both Kristen and Jeff have the most lovely families, that heightened the day. Their wedding party was such a blast to be around, and were all so happy to be there to celebrate their love. Overall I had the best time. Sometimes I can’t believe people invite me to a huge celebration of love and let me enjoy it alongside them, while documenting every little moment.

Another plus side to this magical day was Bobby Singh, who is a friend I met through the Toronto concert photographer’s scene, but is also good friends with Kristen and Jeff. He helped out with the guys getting ready photos, and during the ceremony! It was such a blast to have him here, lots of credit goes to him!

The getting ready portion of the day for the girls was at Kristen’s family home in Glen Williams. It was a gorgeous spot for pre-wedding photos, and it was nice to incorporate some childhood memories into such an important day. The house was filled with everyone trying to get ready, prepare desserts, and organize all the little details that needed to be brought over. It was a lot of hustle and bustle but everyone remained calm. All the bridesmaids, mother of the bride, and Kristen donned adorable tank tops that were purchased off etsy and were customized to the colour theme of the wedding. While Kristen was getting her make-up done by a childhood friend who is also an extremely talented make-up artist, her mom was finishing off icing the cakes, the girls were helping with little tasks such as the dessert tags, and doing each other’s nails. After everyone was ready we went out back and took photos of the girls with their cute tank tops on before everyone got dressed, and of course this called for some champagne celebrating.

After all the dresses were put on we headed to the venue for the ceremony. Bobby and I got everything set up and were waiting for the processional to start. This was my first time seeing Jeff all day, so I checked in with him to see how he was doing. When I asked if he was excited he said “can they just freaking run down the aisle so I can marry her already?” with the biggest look of excitement in his eyes. If that doesn’t warm your heart, I don’t know what will. That marks the first of many times crying that day. The entire ceremony was beautiful, they had a friend officiate the wedding, and their vows were absolutely perfect for the two of them. With many promises to continue supporting each other, having fun, and loving each other. It was absolutely beautiful, with lots of light humour.

Right after the ceremony we headed down to the Willow tree where we started doing all the group shots and family photos. The bridesmaids brought a bottle of champagne which kicked off the celebrating. It was so easy going with everyone celebrating and laughing between photos. You can tell that the bridal party was so thrilled to be a part of the wedding, and happy the day has finally come. Right after the bridal party entrance, Kristen’s brother was asked up to the mic to kick things off. He got up to the mic and said something was missing, so grabbed his guitar, and stated that he couldn’t sing and play at the same time and invited Kristen up. She then announced that she had written a song for Jeff and was about to perform it. He was completely shocked, and maybe a little embarrassed. But it was the sweetest thing I have ever witnessed.

There was so many little details made including the table cards that were actually little pieces of a branch that was hand carved with everyones names. The dessert table was gorgeous, and all the desserts were hand made by family and friends which gave it an extra personal touch. The night went on with the usual festivities. The speeches, first dances, and even an amusing request for clinking glasses for kisses to be replaced by singing any song with the word love in it. It made for quite a fun night, with lots of tears shed (mostly by me…).

Before I left I showed Jeff and Kristen a photo that I wanted to try to recreate. I told them all they had to do was sit on a blanket and stay still. They were more than happy to steal a few moments together and just have a little privacy while posing for photos. It ended up turning out great.

I honestly can’t believe how perfect this day was. I am so thankful that Kristen and Jeff invited me to document their big day. Every part of their wedding was so genuine and full of love, and I am still over the moon about it. I can’t believe that I get to document the love between two people for a living, and am so lucky to be connected with such amazing people such as Kristen and Jeff, their siblings, best friends, and family.
