In Home Engagement Session
April 20th, 2017
I had the pleasure of photographing two of my lovely friends Tyler & Lynlea, for their in-home engagement session.
I asked Lynlea to tell me the story of how they started dating….
“We met many years ago before either of us could drive, no one had cellphones and we chatted on either myspace or msn! I can’t exactly remember the FIRST time I met Tyler but a big part of the reason I met him was through Shaden, probably at a Face The Truth show in Winnipeg! Shaden even made Tyler his first fake ID! I guess one of my first memories of Tyler would be driving to Sounds of the Underground somewhere between Esterhazy and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan I was driving as the sun was rising and we all just started belting out Dashboard Confessional, that was a great road trip! Long lives TPH! We grew up going to the same local shows, going to the same parties and usually dating people in the same group of friends… for a real long time! Skip 10 years down the road and we are both living in Toronto! We were paired up to be partners in TL & Casey’s Wedding back in Winnipeg, just a week before the wedding Tyler texts me asking if I would be able to accompany him to find clothes for the wedding! I accepted, obviously! We partied pretty hard in Winnipeg with all our friends and went back to Toronto and haven’t stopped hanging out!”
And when I asked the details about how Tyler proposed this is what she said.
“I had to work all day but Tyler insisted we go skating on our last night in Toronto before heading to Winnipeg to celebrate the holidays with our friends and family. He planned to meet me at work after with skates and we would walk to Nathan Philips square. I was telling him all about my day and I don’t think stopped talking till we sat down to put on our skates… I think I was still talking and he was already in his skates and I was still trying to put mine on.. he got down on one knee and I was like -“no! don’t ruin your jeans!” he asked me “can you keep a secret for 48 hours?!” and I was just confused… thinking “oh no! who did you kill!?” and then he pulled a little burgundy box out of his jacket pocket and opened it up! I don’t even know if I let him ask me, I was in total shock!”
Their apartment is absolutely adorable. Decorated with posters from tours Tyler’s been on, or wicked shows they’ve attended, cook books, Winnipeg everything (especially the Winnipeg jets), and the cutest mint green kitchen you’ve ever seen! For the ring shots I asked for anything significant, and Lynlea brought out a ticket from a Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers show they went to three years ago. A roll of film, since Lynlea loves to shoot film. And sprinkles! Since Lynlea bakes amazing cakes (gorgeous and delicious) check them out at Lynlea Cakes. The ring is a family heirloom from Tyler’s Great Aunt. It has a thick gold band, and is cut like the shape of a snowflake. It’s unique, vintage, and perfect for their winter engagement.
