Niagara On The Lake
When I first met with Praveena & Andrew we grabbed some beers at Pogue Mahone and started discussing wedding details for their Wedding in Jamaica. We quickly got along and got easily distracted…and were there for almost 3 hours. Which is a great sign considering I’ll be travelling to Jamaica to document their big day and fun leading up to it! In every meeting I like to ask the couple how they met, what they love to do and how they got to here. Praveena and Andrew met how many people do in our generation, online. Together they love to go on adventures, everything from swimming and scuba diving to dancing together like no one is watching.
On their first date Andrew picked Praveena up from work, as she came down to meet him, he was on the phone wishing his cousin “Happy Birthday”, and while approaching him he shushed her. After she got over that, he took her on a walk by the lake and grabbed a drink at Amsterdam Brewery. Andrew unknowingly sang her a Hindi love song from the first Hindi movie she’s ever seen. They fought over the bill, Praveena obviously won and let him take care of the next one. The only thing is she had no idea where they were headed next. They ended up at a restaurant called Montecito, which Andrew chose because of Praveena’s love for movies. The restaurant is owned by the filmmaker Ivan Reitman (who’s responsible for Ghostbusters I and II), and offer a dessert inspired by the movie called the StayPuft Chocolate Mousse.
“Unfortunately, I only made the connection after he told me, and my familiarity of pop culture….but I had never seen that movie at the time. So basically, we both had an opportunity to disappoint each other that day.” explains Praveena.
Flash forward to now, and they are happily engaged, and preparing to say “I do.” In Jamaica this July.
“As for the proposal, I was definitely expecting it on the day he had planned thanks to several clues leading up to the day. So as I was getting ready for the evening to see Cirque Du Soleil’s, Luzia, I pulled out the dress that I’m wearing in our pictures and he looked at me and said ‘What are you wearing, where do you think we’re going?’ He basically talked me out of wearing anything too nice since he still wanted to surprise me on that day, which made me mad. During the show I kept saying ‘let’s just go somewhere and get married now’, and he kept agreeing with me to entertain me. Finally after the show we were taking ‘selfies’, the crowd had pretty much dissipated and I said ‘Remember how stupid we were when we first started dating and took kissing selfies all the time’ which perfectly set him up to pull out the ring and say ‘Well would you want to do this forever?’ and said ‘I hate you!’ Haha, I was so mad that I didn’t get to wear the dress but so happy that there weren’t any surprise photos to go along with the moment.”
Our engagement shoot was planned for a sunrise session at Vinelands Estate near Niagara On The Lake. We ended up running a little behind, but with Andrew’s driving, we made it just on time and saw the whole sunrise; and got some gorgeous shots. I am seriously obsessed. As much as I love sleep, I think I love sunrise sessions more… which makes me even more excited that we’ll probably do another one in Jamaica!! Can’t wait to photograph these two lovely people getting married next month <3
