14 Jul Praveena & Andrew
July 6th, 2017
Riu Ocho Rios, Jamaica
I don’t know where to begin with this gorgeous Jamaican wedding. It was a magical week with an amazing group of people. The wedding took place at Riu Ocho Rios resort, which is a stunning beachfront resort.
The day of the wedding was probably one of the hottest days the entire week. But it was a gorgeous sunny day, with a nice cool breeze. This was my first destination wedding, and I didn’t know what to fully expect. But it was probably even better than I could have imagined. Everyone was so relaxed, and calm and just excited for Praveena and Andrew to tie the knot!
When I talk about a chill couple.. you should have seen them on their wedding day. So many things went wrong that could have led to a typical wedding disaster. They arrive at the hotel in Jamaica and hear from their wedding coordinator that something wasn’t right with the florist, and instead of lavender they would get something similar, but not lavender. No big deal. They were still getting married.
While we were in Andrew & Praveena’s suite for the girls getting ready, we blew a fuse. No one fussed, no one worried. Someone suggested moving down the hall to one of the girls smaller rooms. And Praveena was totally fine with it. She was going to marry Andrew in a few short hours and that’s all that mattered.
Her cousin Samantha who is a very talented makeup artist (https://www.instagram.com/6ix.inch.heels) did her makeup, her sister and her best friend did the gorgeous and intricate braids in her hair, and her last bridesmaid had the responsibility in making sure Praveena always had a drink in her hand.
I have honestly never seen someone so calm and serene while getting ready for their wedding. Praveena was just eating Jamaican patties (along with Sam who was doing her makeup) while getting her makeup done. And was so relaxed while her mom, her sister, and cousins rushed around her zipping her up, putting in earrings, necklaces on, you name it.
Their ceremony had so much love and laughter. I mean a lot. They had a hilarious Jamaican officiant who double checked on everything, which ensued laughter. The two of them were exuberant with the realization that they were saying their vows in front of everyone they loved. Once they said ‘I do’ and sealed it with a kiss, it was just one big celebration.
The whole night was just perfect. I have a hard time explaining how much joy this night contained because I felt like a guest, as well as a photographer. All of their friends and family welcomed me in with open arms and made sure I was included in all the week’s festivities. I have never been bugged more to put my camera down and have a drink and dance than that night, but I have to say I appreciated it so much.
